OK, so . . . that was fun!

For a friend who asked, here’s the current status of the Fair Isle sampler:  FI sampler

 Moving on. . . .

I started another colorful project, this time with some hand-dyed yarn from Twisted Fiber Arts that I’ve been eager to try.  beginnings of twisted diagonal scarf

The pattern I found online, linked from Cathy-Cate’s blog, “Hither and Yarn“.  This whole thing started with her scarf in Twisted’s “Ravelry” colorway:  green & pink; adorable!

8-Trick Pocket Hat is done! And more Beginnings.

Posted by mtmom on March 28, 2008

Spring is proceeding.  Remember the shot of daffodil leaves, a week or so ago?  Well, here they are again, only bigger.  daffodil shoots

We also have tulips coming up.  tulip shoots

I finished the 8-Trick Pocket Hat!  Here it is, just before I grafted the top shut.  8-trick hat, pre-grafting

This hat has been FUN to knit!  The back-join (see TECHknitting — link in sidebar)continued to give me problems, eventhough I had 4 yarn-changes to practice it on, so I varied it for the last stripe and it worked better for me that way.  Went ahead and darned the ends in more securely than specified.

I, of course, immediately cast on for another project.  This will be, I hope, a new colorway for my 3-Color Spiral Cap pattern (available free in PDF here and on Ravelry).  I’ll try for truer colors in future photos; this is navy with medium green and light turquoise.  “We’re in the Navy now…!  La da da di dat ti dah.”  top of maritime cap

[BTW, see if you can spot signs of my Little Helper in each of these knitting photos!]

On the sock-design front, I have 2 sock-tops in progress:  one as the beginning of a sampler to show Lord Scott some possibilities. . .  purple sock top

. . . and one for my next pair of knee socks — gotta beat the sag!  gold apple pie sock top

Knitting vs Knit-Biz

Posted by mtmom on February 22, 2008

I’ve been spending more time documenting my knitting (mostly dealing with my Designer page on Ravelry and the Pattern pages in the sidebar) than I have done actual knitting.  Absolutely NO knitting time yesterday!  (Urk!)  Today, I’m striving for a better balance.

I finished this:  dd models Spectrum hat

Here’s what the top looks like:  top view of spectrum hat in process

I even like how the brim turned out:  end-on view of brim, plus cat
(Notice my “helper”/observer?)

I’m calling it the Spectrum Square-Topped Hat.  This was alot of fun to design and see how it would work out!  The yarn is acrylic, received as a gift/donation/discard.  It came sans-label, but a little research tells me it’s probably Red Heart Kids Yarn in colorway “Crayon”.  I used needles in 3 sizes:  US 7 (body), 6 (ribbing), and 5 (double-knitting portion of tubular bind-off).  The striping is totally dependent on the spacing of the color-changes in the yarn; a different brand would turn out differently.  I wonder if Red Heart would be interested?

My current happy-project is the 8-Trick Pocket Hat, being released in serial/KAL format over at TECHKnitter’s blog.  (Began on Wed., 6 Feb. 2008).  I’m doubling leftover sock yarn with lace-weight on US 5’s.  yarn and beginnings of 8-trick hat

The first “trick” is an  Easy-peasy reverse stockinette tubular edging (her designation).  tubular edging on 8-trick hat

I want to go do some knitting now!

Also teach some history and maybe music too. . . .

Coming soon:  re-drawing for book giveaway!
